This is the first book to take a look at these religious necklaces. The first chapter gives the historical background on the rosary with reasons on why these were developed and how they have attracted their use and collectability. Chapter two is Crosses; Chapter 3 has Crucifixes; Chapter 4 is about Center Medals; Chapter 5 lists Links, Chains & Extenders; Chapter 6 shows off Beads; In Chapter 7 is the rosaries. The photo captions give the name of the item with a description of what it is made of and a value. Explanations are given on determining the age of the rosary and place of origin. There are many colorful examples through the text.
In the back is a small listing of terms and their definitions to help you learn more about these religious pieces of jewelry. With all of the information given, it would have been nice to have an index for easily being able to find things. It was amazing to see the various rosaries made out of such a variety of natural gem stones. All of the accompanied items made a great addition to the normal rosary necklaces that you think of. There are some gorgeous pieces pictured and the book would make a nice addition to a religious library. |
